What is slant height?
Slant height is the straight-line distance along the outside surface of a cone, from the apex (tip) down to the edge of the circular base. It is different from the cone's vertical height, which is measured straight down through the center.
How is slant height calculated?
Radius, height, and slant height form a right triangle, so the Pythagorean theorem applies: slant height = sqrt(radius^2 + height^2).
Can I calculate slant height from an angle instead?
Yes. If you know the base angle, use slant height = height / sin(angle). If you know the apex angle, use slant height = radius / sin(angle).
