What makes a trapezoid a right trapezoid?
A right trapezoid has one leg perpendicular to both bases, creating two right angles. That perpendicular leg is also automatically the trapezoid's height, which simplifies several calculations.
How is the slant leg found?
The perpendicular leg and the horizontal difference between the two bases form a right triangle, with the slant leg as its hypotenuse, found using the Pythagorean theorem.
Why does the perpendicular leg equal the height directly?
Height is defined as the perpendicular distance between the two parallel bases. Since one leg of a right trapezoid is already perpendicular to both bases by definition, that leg's length is exactly the height, no separate calculation needed.
