Frequently Asked Questions
What is a trapezoid?
A trapezoid, called a trapezium in British English, is a four-sided shape with exactly one pair of parallel sides, called the bases. The other two sides are called legs.
How is trapezoid area calculated?
Area equals the average of the two base lengths, times the height, the perpendicular distance between the two parallel bases: (a plus b) times h, divided by 2.
How is this different from the Isosceles Trapezoid or Right Trapezoid calculators?
This is the general version for any trapezoid shape. The isosceles and right trapezoid versions apply extra geometric relationships specific to those special cases, letting you compute the height itself from fewer inputs, such as just the legs and bases.
