Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Punnett square?
A Punnett square is a grid used to predict the possible genotype combinations offspring can inherit from two parents for a single gene, along with the probability of each combination.
What do the letters AA, Aa, and aa mean?
A capital letter represents a dominant allele and a lowercase letter represents a recessive allele. AA is homozygous dominant, Aa is heterozygous (carries one of each), and aa is homozygous recessive.
Does this apply to every trait?
This calculator applies to traits controlled by a single gene with simple dominant and recessive inheritance. Many real traits are influenced by multiple genes or other factors and do not follow this simple pattern.
