What is a good grade for drainage away from a house?
A common minimum recommendation is at least a 2 percent grade, roughly a 2 inch drop over 10 feet, sloping away from the foundation for the first 10 feet, to keep water from pooling against the building.
How is grade percentage different from grade angle?
Grade percentage is rise divided by run, a simple ratio commonly used in surveying and civil work. Grade angle converts that same ratio into a true angle from horizontal using the arctangent, which is more useful for some layout and construction tools.
Is this the same as roof pitch?
The underlying math, rise over run, is the same relationship used for roof pitch, but grade is typically used for civil and landscape slopes and expressed as a percentage, while roof pitch is conventionally expressed as an x-in-12 ratio.
