What is arctangent?
Arctangent (also written tan^-1 or arcus tangent) is the inverse of the tangent function: given a tangent value, it finds the angle that produces it. If tan(y) = x, then arctan(x) = y.
Why doesn't arctangent need an input range restriction?
Unlike sine and cosine, tangent can output any real number, so arctangent accepts any real number as input, with no upper or lower bound.
What range does arctangent return?
Arctangent always returns its principal value strictly between -90 and 90 degrees, approaching but never reaching those limits.
