Frequently Asked Questions
What is secant?
Secant is the reciprocal of cosine, sec(angle) = 1 / cos(angle).
When is secant undefined?
Secant is undefined whenever cosine is zero (at 90 degrees, 270 degrees, and so on).
What range does secant fall in?
Since cosine ranges from -1 to 1, its reciprocal secant only ever falls between -1 and 1 at the extremes, and grows without bound as cosine approaches zero, so secant's output is everything outside the range (-1, 1).
