Unit Conversion calculators
This converter turns acres into hectares (acre to ha). Enter a value and the result updates as you type. 1 acre equals exactly 0.40468564224 hectares.
Farm, forest and land registers outside the US are kept in hectares, while US deeds and listings use acres, so this is the conversion for comparing a US acreage with a metric record. A quick estimate is to multiply acres by 0.4, which comes out about 1% low; the converter itself uses the full factor.
The result is rounded to 6 decimal places, but the factor behind it never is, so long chains of conversions stay accurate. You can type decimals, thousands separators or fractions such as 2 1/2, and the conversion table below lists common values.
How Many Hectares in an Acre
One acre is 0.40468564224 hectares, a little over two fifths of a hectare. So about 2.47 acres fill one hectare, and 10 acres is about 4.05 hectares.

International Acre and Survey Acre
The acre had two slightly different sizes in the US until the end of 2022. The international acre is built on the foot of exactly 0.3048 meters. The older U.S. survey acre was built on the survey foot, 1,200/3,937 meters, and was about 4,046.8726 square meters, roughly two parts per million larger. NIST says the survey foot should be avoided from January 1, 2023, except for historic and legacy records, and this converter uses the international acre.
The difference is tiny: on 1,000 acres it is about 0.00161875 hectares, a little over 16 square meters. It only matters when matching old survey records to the last digit.
Converting Per-Acre Rates
A rate per acre, such as a yield or a price, goes the other way: a hectare holds about 2.4711 acres, so multiply a per-acre figure by about 2.4711 to get the per-hectare figure. The Crop Yield per Acre Calculator works per acre, and the Price per Acre Calculator turns a sale price into a price per acre.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many hectares is 25 acres?
25 acres equals exactly 10.117141056 hectares.
How do I convert acres to hectares in Excel?
With the value in cell A2, use =A2*0.40468564224, or =CONVERT(A2,"uk_acre","ha"), where Microsoft labels uk_acre as the international acre. Format the cell to show the decimals you need; Excel keeps the full value behind the display.
Why do some converters show 0.4047 and others 0.404686?
Rounding. Both come from the same exact value, 0.40468564224 hectares per acre, cut to 4 and 6 decimal places. The more digits a converter keeps, the closer large conversions stay to the true result.
How many hectares is 15 acres?
15 acres equals exactly 6.0702846336 hectares.
What happens if I enter a negative number?
The result shows a dash. An area is a size, so it is never below zero; a negative value usually means a typing mistake, such as a stray minus sign.
