Bar Gauge and PSIG
A reading of 0 barg means the pressure equals the surrounding air. So 2 barg is about 29.0075 psig, and both describe the same pressure inside the tank or tire. Adding the air pressure to get an absolute value is a separate step: about 1.01325 bar, or 14.7 psi, at standard sea-level conditions.
From Bar Absolute to PSIG
An absolute reading (bara) has to lose the surrounding air pressure before it becomes a gauge reading: psig = (bara - local air pressure in bar) × 14.5038. At the standard 1,013.25 mbar, 3.5 bara is about 36.0673 psig; where the barometer reads 950 mbar, the same 3.5 bara is about 36.9846 psig. Writing the g or a after the unit (barg, bara, psig, psia) keeps the two from being mixed up.
