Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this BAC calculator?
The Widmark formula gives a rough estimate only. Actual BAC varies based on metabolism, food intake, medication, liver function, and drink strength — this tool should never be used to decide whether it is safe to drive.
What counts as one standard drink?
One standard drink is typically defined as 14 grams of pure alcohol — roughly a 12 oz beer (5% ABV), a 5 oz glass of wine (12% ABV), or a 1.5 oz shot of spirits (40% ABV).
How fast does the body eliminate alcohol?
On average, the body metabolizes alcohol at about 0.015% BAC per hour, though this varies by individual. This calculator uses that average elimination rate.
