This converter turns quarts into fluid ounces (qt to oz). Enter a value and the result updates as you type. The section "How Many Ounces in a Quart" below gives the factor and where it comes from.
Milk, stock, motor oil and paint are sold by the quart in the US, while labels and smaller measures use fluid ounces. A US quart is a quarter of a gallon. The converter uses US quarts and fluid ounces by default and UK imperial quarts and fluid ounces when you pick UK Imperial in the Measurement System box.
The result is rounded to 2 decimal places, but the factor behind it never is, so long chains of conversions stay accurate. Type a whole number or a decimal; the conversion table below lists common values.
How Many Ounces in a Quart
A US quart holds exactly 32 US fluid ounces, and an imperial quart holds 40 imperial fluid ounces. The US quart is a quarter of the 128 fluid ounce US gallon and 2 pints of 16 fluid ounces each, as listed in NIST Handbook 44; the imperial quart is 2 imperial pints of 20 imperial fluid ounces. Because the two ounces differ in size, a US quart is about 33.31 imperial fluid ounces.
Pint or Quart: Which Is Bigger
A quart is bigger: it is 2 pints, so a pint is half a quart in both the US and the UK systems. A US pint is 16 US fluid ounces against the quart's 32.
How to Convert Quarts to Fluid Ounces
To convert quarts to fluid ounces, multiply by 32. For example, 3.5 quarts equals exactly 112 fluid ounces. For UK imperial quarts, multiply by 40 instead: 3.5 imperial quarts is 140 imperial fluid ounces.
To go from fluid ounces back to quarts, divide by 32. For example, 40 fluid ounces equals exactly 1.25 quarts.

Liquid Quart vs Dry Quart
This converter uses the US liquid quart of 57.75 cubic inches. The US dry quart, 67.200625 cubic inches, is a different unit for berries and produce: NIST Handbook 44 lists berry baskets of ½ dry pint, 1 dry pint and 1 dry quart. By volume a dry quart is about 37.24 US fluid ounces, but it is not used for liquids, and ounces of weight are a different measure again.
To weigh a quart of a liquid, the Quarts to Pounds Converter uses its density, and the Recipe Scaling Calculator resizes a recipe before you convert it.
