Unit Conversion calculators
This converter turns liters into fluid ounces (L to oz). Enter a value and the result updates as you type. The section "How Many Ounces in a Liter" below gives the factor and where it comes from.
Bottles sold in liters and recipes, drink sizes or daily water goals written in ounces are the usual reasons for this conversion. Liter is also abbreviated lt, so lt to oz is the same conversion. A fluid ounce, sometimes called a liquid ounce, is a volume; the ounce used for weight is a different unit. The converter gives US fluid ounces by default and UK imperial fluid ounces when you pick them in the Fluid Ounce Standard box.
The result is rounded to 3 decimal places, but the factor behind it never is, so long chains of conversions stay accurate. Type a whole number or a decimal; the conversion table below lists common values.
How Many Ounces in a Liter
A liter is about 33.814 US fluid ounces, or about 35.195 UK imperial fluid ounces. The US fluid ounce is 1/128 of a US gallon, 29.5735295625 mL, while the imperial fluid ounce is 1/20 of the imperial pint, 28.4130625 mL, so the smaller imperial ounce fits about 4% more times into a liter. A liter of water, milk or soda is the same number of fluid ounces, since both units measure volume. Both ounces come from NIST Handbook 44 and the pint in the UK Weights and Measures Act 1985.
How Many Ounces in a Two Liter Bottle
A 2 liter soda bottle holds about 67.628 US fluid ounces, a little more than half a US gallon of 64 fluid ounces. In imperial fluid ounces it is about 70.39.
How to Convert Liters to Fluid Ounces
To convert liters to fluid ounces, multiply by 1,000 and divide by 29.5735295625, the milliliters in a US fluid ounce, which is the same as multiplying by about 33.814. For example, 0.4 liters is about 13.526 fluid ounces. For UK imperial fluid ounces, divide by 28.4130625 instead: 0.4 liter is about 14.078 imperial fluid ounces.
To go from fluid ounces back to liters, multiply by 0.0295735295625. For example, 24 fluid ounces equals exactly 0.7097647095 liters.

Bottle Sizes in Fluid Ounces
Drinks are bottled in metric sizes, and US labels add the fluid ounces. The sizes below are among those US rules allow for distilled spirits (27 CFR 5.203), plus the half liter water bottle.

US Nutrition Facts labels use a rounded fluid ounce of 30 mL (21 CFR 101.9), so a serving size in fluid ounces can differ a little from the figures here. To compare the price of two bottle sizes, use the Price Per Ounce Calculator, and for a daily drinking target, the Water Intake Calculator.
Why Liter to Ounce Answers Differ
Rounded shortcuts give slightly different answers. Multiplying liters by 33.8 is about 0.04% low and by 34 about 0.55% high, while treating a fluid ounce as 0.03 liter makes a liter come out at 33.33 ounces, about 1.4% low. One popular converter shows 67.6205 fluid ounces for 2 liters because it works through a rounded 28.32 liters per cubic foot. Mixing up the US and imperial ounce is the biggest slip, about 4%.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many fluid ounces is 3 liters?
About 101.4421 fluid ounces.
How many fluid ounces is 4 liters?
About 135.2561 fluid ounces.
How many fluid ounces is 2.5 liters?
About 84.5351 fluid ounces.
Is a liter more than 32 ounces?
Yes. A liter is a little more than 32 US fluid ounces, the size of a US quart, so a quart bottle holds slightly less than a liter.
How many glasses of water are in a liter?
About 4.23 glasses of 8 US fluid ounces each. An 8 ounce glass is the size of a US cup, so a liter of water is a little over 4 cups.
Which fluid ounce does this converter use?
The US fluid ounce unless you choose UK / Imperial Fluid Ounce in the Fluid Ounce Standard box. The imperial ounce is the smaller of the two, so the same liters give more imperial ounces.
What happens if I enter a negative number?
The result shows a dash. A volume is an amount of space, so it is never below zero; a minus sign in front of a value is usually a typing slip.
