This converter turns fluid ounces into liters (oz to L). Enter a value and the result updates as you type. The section "How Many Liters in an Ounce" below gives the factor and where it comes from.
Drink sizes, recipes and water bottles in the US are given in fluid ounces, while much of the world, and many bottle labels, use liters, sometimes abbreviated lt (oz to lt is the same conversion). This page converts fluid ounces, a volume. It uses the US fluid ounce by default and the UK imperial fluid ounce when you pick it in the Fluid Ounce Standard box.
The result is rounded to 4 decimal places, but the factor behind it never is, so long chains of conversions stay accurate. Type a whole number or a decimal; the conversion table below lists common values.
How Many Liters in an Ounce
A US fluid ounce is 0.0295735295625 liter, a little under 3% of a liter, and an imperial fluid ounce is 0.0284130625 liter. Both are exact: the US ounce is 1/128 of the US gallon in NIST Handbook 44, and the imperial ounce is 1/20 of the imperial pint of 0.56826125 liter defined in the UK Weights and Measures Act 1985.
How to Convert Fluid Ounces to Liters
To convert fluid ounces to liters, multiply by 0.0295735295625, the liters in a US fluid ounce. For example, 18 fluid ounces equals exactly 0.532323532125 liters. For UK imperial fluid ounces, multiply by 0.0284130625 instead: 18 imperial fluid ounces is about 0.511435 liter.
To go from liters back to fluid ounces, multiply by 1,000 and divide by 29.5735295625, or multiply by about 33.814. For example, 0.6 liters is about 20.2884 fluid ounces.

Fluid Ounces, Not Ounces of Weight
An ounce of weight is 1/16 of a pound, 28.349523125 grams, and it measures how heavy something is, so turning it into liters needs the ingredient's density. For water at room temperature the two are close: an ounce of water by weight fills about 0.96 US fluid ounce, or about 0.0284 liter. For other liquids, the Fluid Ounces to Pounds Converter and the Grams to Milliliters Converter use each ingredient's density.
What Is a Fluid Ounce
A fluid ounce, written fl oz, is a small unit of volume in the US customary and British imperial systems. In the US it is an eighth of a cup and a sixteenth of a pint; the imperial fluid ounce is a twentieth of an imperial pint and a little smaller. Drink cans, bottles and medicine cups in the US are labeled with it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many liters is 1.5 fluid ounces?

1.892705892 liters.

How do I convert fluid ounces to liters in Excel?
Use =CONVERT(A1,"oz","l") with the fluid ounces in cell A1. In CONVERT's volume units "oz" is the US fluid ounce (the weight ounce is "ozm"), and there is no UK fluid ounce unit, so for imperial ounces multiply by 0.0284130625 instead.
Is 32 oz a liter?
No, a little less. 32 US fluid ounces, a US quart, is about 0.946353 liter, so a liter bottle holds about 1.8 fluid ounces more.
What happens if I enter a negative number?
The result shows a dash. A volume is an amount of space, so it is never below zero; a minus sign in front of a value is usually a typing slip.
