Quick answer: 1 day = 24 hours, 2 days = 48 hours, 3 days = 72 hours, and 7 days = 168 hours.

This page covers days to hours only. The related converters further down the page handle the reverse direction and the rest of the time unit family.

How to Convert Days to Hours

The formula is: hours = days × 24.

Worked example: 4 days is 96 hours.

To go the other way, use the Hours to Days Converter, which divides by 24 instead of multiplying.

How Many Hours Are in a Day?

A day has exactly 24 hours. The 24 hour division dates back to ancient Egypt, where daylight and darkness were each split into 12 parts, and it is now the standard everywhere.

Two small exceptions are worth knowing. On the day clocks change for daylight saving time, the local day has 23 or 25 hours, and a sidereal day (one rotation of Earth relative to the stars) lasts about 23 hours 56 minutes. Calendar conversions like this one always use 24. Hours are abbreviated h, hr, or hrs, and days as d.

Converting Work Days to Hours

A calendar day always has 24 hours, but a standard work day is usually 8 hours. To turn work days, vacation days, or paid leave into working hours, multiply by the hours in your work day instead: 5 work days at 8 hours is 40 hours, and 10 vacation days is 80 hours.

Yes. Multiply by 24 (for example =A1*24), or use the built in function =CONVERT(A1,"day","hr"), where "day" and "hr" are the unit codes Excel uses for days and hours.
