This milliseconds converter shows an amount of time in milliseconds next to centiseconds, deciseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, microseconds, nanoseconds and picoseconds. Type into any box and the rest update as you type, so it converts ms to sec, ms to min and back.
A millisecond is a thousandth of a second, so every result here comes from fixed factors and none of them is an average. Milliseconds are the usual unit for software timing, page load times and audio delay, where a whole second is too coarse.
Results show up to six decimal places. Typing a number such as 1,500 with a comma works too.
How Many Milliseconds in a Minute
A minute has 60,000 milliseconds: 60 seconds of 1,000 milliseconds each. The longer units follow the same way.
| Unit | Milliseconds | Value Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1 second | 1,000 milliseconds | Exact |
| 1 minute | 60,000 milliseconds | Exact |
| 1 hour | 3,600,000 milliseconds | Exact |
| 1 day | 86,400,000 milliseconds | Exact |
| 1 week | 604,800,000 milliseconds | Exact |
How Many Milliseconds in an Hour
An hour has 3,600,000 milliseconds, 3.6 million: 3,600 seconds times 1,000.
How Many Milliseconds in a Day
A day has 86,400,000 milliseconds, 86.4 million: 86,400 seconds times 1,000.
How Long Is a Millisecond
One second is 1,000 milliseconds, so the millisecond is exact by definition: milli means one thousandth. The symbol is ms; msec and millis are informal short forms of the same unit.
Centiseconds and Deciseconds
A centisecond is a hundredth of a second, 10 milliseconds, and a decisecond is a tenth of a second, 100 milliseconds. A stopwatch that shows two digits after the seconds counts centiseconds.
How Long Is a Nanosecond
A nanosecond is a billionth of a second, so a millisecond holds 1,000,000 nanoseconds and 1,000 microseconds. A picosecond is a thousand times shorter again.
Milliseconds to Hours, Minutes and Seconds
- Divide by 1,000 to get seconds.
- Divide the seconds by 86,400 for whole days, then the remainder by 3,600 for hours and by 60 for minutes.
- Example: 1,337,000,000 ms is 1,337,000 seconds, which is 15 days, 11 hours, 23 minutes and 20 seconds.
Software often stores time as milliseconds since 1970; the Unix Timestamp Converter turns such a timestamp into a date. In music production, the BPM to Milliseconds Delay Calculator works out delay times in milliseconds from a tempo.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many seconds is 1 millisecond?
0.001 seconds, a thousandth of a second.
How many seconds is 250 milliseconds?
0.25 seconds, a quarter of a second.
How many minutes is 90,000 milliseconds?
1.5 minutes, since 90,000 ms is 90 seconds.
How many milliseconds is 2.5 minutes?
150,000 milliseconds.
What is the symbol for milliseconds?
The symbol is ms, a lowercase m for milli and s for second. Don't confuse it with Ms, which would be a megasecond, or with m/s, meters per second.
