Unit Conversion calculators
This converter turns pints into fluid ounces (pt to oz). Enter a value and the result updates as you type. The section "How Many Ounces in a Pint" below gives the factor and where it comes from.
Beer, milk, ice cream and berries come in pints, while recipes and drink labels count fluid ounces. The converter uses US pints and fluid ounces by default and UK imperial pints and fluid ounces when you pick UK Imperial in the Measurement System box.
The result is rounded to 2 decimal places, but the factor behind it never is, so long chains of conversions stay accurate. Type a whole number or a decimal; the conversion table below lists common values.
How Many Ounces in a Pint
A US pint holds exactly 16 US fluid ounces, and an imperial pint holds 20 imperial fluid ounces. The US pint is an eighth of the US gallon, as listed in NIST Handbook 44; the imperial pint, 0.56826125 liter, is the one imperial unit UK law still defines (UK Weights and Measures Act 1985). Because the two ounces differ, a US pint is about 16.65 imperial fluid ounces.
Dry Pint vs Liquid Pint
The US dry pint, 33.6003125 cubic inches, is about 18.62 US fluid ounces by volume. It measures berries and small fruit (the handbook lists ½ dry pint, 1 dry pint and 1 dry quart baskets); for milk, beer and other liquids the 16 ounce liquid pint applies.
How to Convert Pints to Fluid Ounces
To convert pints to fluid ounces, multiply by 16. For example, 3.5 pints equals exactly 56 fluid ounces. For UK imperial pints, multiply by 20 instead: 3.5 imperial pints is 70 imperial fluid ounces.
To go from fluid ounces back to pints, divide by 16. For example, 24 fluid ounces equals exactly 1.5 pints.

Pints of Beer, Milk and Ice Cream
A US pint of milk, ice cream or beer is 16 US fluid ounces. A British pint is the larger imperial pint of 20 imperial fluid ounces, about 19.2 US fluid ounces, so a pint ordered in London holds about a fifth more than one in New York. The Alcohol Unit Calculator counts the alcohol in a pint of beer, and the BAC Calculator estimates blood alcohol from drinks.
